This post is brought to you by the good folks from Starker Fresh Beer.
Starker Fresh Beer may be more known for its alcoholic beverages, but they have also joined the fray into the F&B establishments as well.
I was able to attend a special media tasting to try some of their food and drinks at their Hillview 2 outlet and it is a superb place to chill and unwind. And especially for football fans, it's a great place to catch those BPL matches too.
HV2 may have been rather inaccessible in the past, but with the introduction of the Downtown MRT Line, HV2 is now only a 10 minute walk from the train station, thus making it rather convenient for those that do not live around there and do not drive.
The decor is quite straightforward, full of wood and oak like walls and a barrage of Starker beer barrels aligning the walls. The food is mostly bar bites but there are some savory mains for those who might want to catch a fuller meal too.
Starker beers are brewed locally and have a 7 day shelf life to ensure maximum freshness and served in rustic wooden oak barrels. They are also particular about the temperature of your beverage so iced cold mugs are change frequently to ensure you get icy cold brew here.
You can sample the beer flight if you are a first timer here, and there are an assortment of flavours ranging from lager, aromatic, lychee, charcoal and Dunkel. My two picks are the sweet and fruity lychee beer and the tasty and seriously aromatic "aromatic" brew.
The bar bites range from the familiar to some less often seen dishes. Fried wings, onion crisps and fried calamari are the usual suspects which should serve the beer drinking crowd well. But it is their pulled pork sliders that captivated me with its hearty and juicy flavours making it very delectable all on its own. Suffice to say, it goes even better with their fresh beer.
For the working crowd, there is also a comprehensive and affordable set menu during the day that might prove enticing on both weekdays and weekends.
The choices include a selection of pasta dishes, seared dory and even chicken schnitzel. For the set, it includes a choice of soup or salad, a main and a beverage. All which you can procure for under S$25.
Of special mention is my own personal favourite here, which is their in-house roast chicken. Crisp fragrant skin, accompanied by a juicy and moist meat and a well made mashed potato is as rustic good as it comes.
I can imagine this is the place to be on Saturday nights for the football watching boys, all decked out in their Arsenal or Man Utd jerseys as they cheer on their teams. Pairing the delicious beer with some well chosen savouries and bar bites makes this the ideal chillax joint on weekends.
