You may have noticed I have not posted for the last couple of weeks, and the reason is very simple. Pauline and I were away on our annual vacation in Melbourne.
And what a wonderful city it is! Filled with a metropolis of skyscrapers yet it retained a natural beauty of greenery and scenery that embodies the spirit of Australian people.

Crust Gourmet Pizza Bar at Holland Village With Video
I was recently invited to a food tasting session at Crust Gourmet Pizza Bar, a new pizza place located in the heart of Holland Village which started only in August.
Situated just across Wala Wala, Crust also does home deliveries within a certain distance and I had the pleasure of meeting the owner here, Leo who is genuinely passionate about making great pizzas.

Loy Kee Chicken Rice & Porridge at Whampoa Hawker Market
In my ongoing series on Whampoa's finest eating places, I was referred by Bobcat to try one of the 4 heavenly kings of chicken rice, namely Loy Kee Chicken Rice.
I was also reliably informed by Bobcat from the ieat forums to specifically try Loy Kee at Whampoa as the other outlets are run by the brother of this stall. This is still the original and the best of the Loy Kee stalls, apparently.

Innovation Noodle At Whampoa Market With Video
Among Whampoa's hidden treasures is this very unique noodle stall cleverly called Innovation Noodle, and true to its name, it does have some quite innovative touches.
Run by a very friendly lady boss, this stall may on first glance, look like any other bak chor mee stall, but on closer inspection, it will reveal a far wider range of selection.

Hock Lam Popular Beef Kway Teow, Formerly From Purvis Street With Video
I used to frequent this very well known beef noodle stall a decade ago when I was working near Suntec CIty, and would always take the effort to walk across Beach Road to reach Purvis Street.
Now, they have moved behind to Seah Street just next to Naomi Hotel, and has a brand new look and interior decor, which is a far cry from their old furnishings over at Purvis.

Scallion Capellini with Caviar
It's been awhile since I posted on a new recipe, and I thought I had better address this gap today with a simple, yet very tasty little creation.
And following my obsession with capellini dishes recently, I came up with this simple plate of pasta over the weekend with the intention of making this quick and fast.

A Return To Cafe De Hong Kong
After my first wonderful dining experience at Cafe de Hong Kong, I was itching to go back for a return visit to try some of their other dishes, to see if the rest of the menu could live up to the initial experience.
Well, I was not disappointed at all, and in fact, the second time was as good as the first, and I realised that there were so many other great dishes to try even after this visit.

Singapore's Best Food Blogs
As we near the end of the year, it has traditionally been at around this time that people will begin to compile the best of the year's lists, and I thought I would like to follow suit as well.
Over the coming weeks, I will be feverishly compiling my own best of lists, in particular, my top 5 eating places. For now, I would like to start off with my favorite Singapore blogs that I read myself.

Whampoa Satay Bee Hoon
It is quite surprising that after all these years, I still have not really visited Whampoa's famous eateries and food markets, and only recently was prompted to go there by one of my readers here.
The Whampoa Market is indeed huge, and houses twice as many food stalls as your regular food market. But, what is more important is that the quality of the food here is exceptionally high.

Of Apple, Iphone 4, Food Blog and Video Blogging
It has been awhile since I took a bit of time away from reviewing and cooking food, and I thought this might be an opportune time to reflect on a few things.
First, I wanted to write about how I have been doing my food blogs and taking the videos and photos that you see here, and it might surprise a few of you.

Flavvors at Toa Payoh Orange Tee Building
I was over at Toa Payoh Hub for a meeting a few weeks ago and my friend recommended me to try this somewhat new Chinese Dim Sum styled place.
It is actually situated right in the front of the Orange Tee building and is very visible from the front. Internally, it is quite cosy and has a nice decor.

XiMenDing Taiwan Cuisine
The basement of Raffles City has seen a lot of changes recently, and there are no lack of eating places there with a wide range of different cuisines.
One of the most recent addition is this new Taiwanese eatery, XiMenDing Taiwan Cuisine which is very nicely decorated and serves a wide selection of Taiwanese favorites.

Fine Cuts at Clarke Quay Central
Singapore has its fair share of Jack's Place and Astons these days, and sometimes, Pauline and I just long to eat some good steak without going to the usual haunts and avoiding too high a price tag.
So, it came to our surprise we chanced upon this steak and meat cafe in Clarke Quay Central, right in the heart of its basement and quietly tucked away. It is a very cosy place though.

Pie Connection Curry Puffs at Shunfu Market With Video
My previous double puff features on Tip Top and Selera elicited quite a number of impressions, and I decided to follow up with a 3rd puff feature.
This time, this excellent curry puff outlet resides in Shunfu Market, which has already produced quite a number of gems as documented in my previous posts.

Leong Hainanese Chicken Rice at Shunfu Market
In the unending discovery of culinary treasures in Shunfu Market, lies another unassuming yet exceptional food gem, this particularly wonderful chicken rice stall.
Leong Hainanese Chicken Rice looked just like any other chicken rice stall, serving seemingly common chicken rice fare and managed by its owner and a helper.

Rong Cheng Bak Kut Teh at Sin Ming
Block 22 at Sin Ming has always been known for a number of eateries, and the bak kut teh shop here is one of its most illustrious tenants.
Found on the edge of this humongous HDB block, it serves very classic and traditional Teochew bak kut teh and is often a favorite stop of mine for a quick breakfast fix.

Tampopo With Video
After my last post on Curry Favor, I was alerted to Tampopo from catusckit again on another great Japanese curry eatery located in the heart of Liang Court.
It was a very happening outlet as going there on a Friday evening, this place was well packed with diners and we were made to wait for about 20 minutes before getting our table.

Meng Kee Char Kway Teow at Beo Crescent
Previously, I talked about No. 18 Char Kway Teow at Zion which has obviously been very well known and popular among locals here, but there is another char kway teow which is even better.
This one is located at Beo Crescent near Bukit Ho Swee and is found in a very discreet coffeestall, and you would easily miss it if you do not actually look for it carefully.

Kampong Chicken Eating House at Tiong Bahru
Previously, I covered Upper Thomson's famous kampong chicken and I had mentioned then that there is another kampong chicken in Tiong Bahru as well.
It is called Kampong Chicken Eating House and likewise, it serves very yellow skinned steamed chicken and rice, as well as an assortment of zhe char dishes to go along.

Le Chasseur
Usually, it would take me almost a week before I put up a blog of a place that I have visited and fancied, but this new zhe char place was so good, I have to blog this the morning after we were there!
Quietly tucked in a corner along New Bridge road, this very humble cafe was almost too inconspicuous for its own good, and would have almost passed us by if the rather unique name had not stood out.

Rochor Beancurd House at Geylang
After my previous mention on the excellent beancurd place from Rochor Original Beancurd at Selegie, I was informed by a reader to try out this Geylang beancurd stall as well.
They look very similar to the one at Selegie, except they have a different signboard and slightly different stall name.

Mei Zhen Hakka Delicacies With Video
During our visit to Shunfu Market for our char siew feature, we also discovered that next to it was also a very popular hakka snack stall called Mei Zhen Hakka Delicacies.
It serves various hakka specialties like soon kueh (mushroom and turnip dumplings), glutinous rice, suan pan (yam balls and garlic) and many more.

Chung Wah Chicken Rice Ball in Malacca, Jonker Street
Alas, my great chicken rice ball hunt has taken me all the way up to Malacca to find the holy grail of all rice balls, and did it live up to expectations?
Well, yes and no. But let me backtrack a bit. I have already had the best of the chicken rice balls here in Singapore, namely the ones in Jalan Besar and Braddell.

Traditional Fu Shi Roasted Wanton Mee With Video
Within the confines of Shunfu Market, lies hidden one of the best kept secrets when it comes to char siew, or honey glazed barbecued pork.
Personally, I have never been a big fan of char siew, and very often I will ask them to be replaced by more wantons when I order my usual plate of wanton noodles.

Po Piah Lwee in Malacca Near Jonker Street
When we were in Malacca last week, one of our food objectives was to visit a classic Nyonya eatery called Nancy's Kitchen just off Jonker Street.
Unfortunately, we were a bit late and it seemed the place was not accepting any new customers for the day, so we were left to hunt somewhere else for our Nyonya fix.

Cafe De Hong Kong With Video
There are moments when you find immense joy in new discoveries, and discover we did in this gem of a cafe introduced by cactuskit from ieat forums.
From its unpretentious exterior, sitting on the edge of Balestier Road, one would not expect such an unassuming cafe to elicit such a treasure trove of culinary delights.

Duo of Scallops with Fermented Tofu and Chinese Greens and Apple Pear Curry Foam
Over the weekend, I had the idea of doing a scallop dish and wanted to do it two ways to present it with a certain contrast.
I also wanted to give it a nice east and west balance, so I basically came up with 2 different sauces and garnishes to signify the 2 different regions of flavors.

Tip Top Curry Puff With Video
In our second part of our Double Puff Feature, we will be focusing on what many consider to be the very best curry puff in the whole of Singapore.
Tip Top Curry Puff can only be found in Ang Mo Kio in a coffeeshop. Unlike Selera or Old Chang Kee, they only serve curry puffs and nothing else, which means they are really focused!

Selera Famous Chicken Curry Puff With Video
In the first of silverchef's Double Puff Feature, we are going to touch on Selegie's Selera Curry Puff, just opposite Rex Cinema.
This has been one of the classic curry puff stalls in Singapore, and for those who still swear by Old Chang Kee, this is one you should check out.

Soon Kee Prawn Noodles at Keban Bahru Market
I recently blogged about my favorite nasi lemak store in Keban Bahru Market in Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1. Turns out the stall next to it is quite fascinating as well.
As I was consuming my nasi lemak the other morning, I noticed that there was a very steady line of people queuing up for the prawn noodles next to it, and I was intrigued enough to try one myself.

Authentic Malacca Chendol at Famosa Chicken, Jonker Street
Remember my recent post on Thomson Plaza's Jonker Nyonya Deli's chendol which I raved about?
Well, this one in Malacca beats it hands down. And of all places, I found it in Jonker Walk's Famosa Chicken.
I will not dwell on the chicken rice balls here as I will talk about a superior version in a later post.

Meera's Curry Banana Leaf Restaurant - 24 Hour Prata With Video
Seeing how this has been a Deepavali weekend, I thought I would mark this occasion with another excellent prata place.
This one is also near Upper Thomson, but more towards Mandai area. It is opened 24 hours around the clock, so this makes it a great choice for those looking for a prata fix in the middle of the night.

Roasted Beef Short Ribs Video Recipe
As this is silverchef's very first video recipe, I decided to return to one of my previous posts, which was the oven roasted beef short ribs with ginger capsicum cuscus dish.
I wanted to give a better idea or how some of these recipes were put together, and also, to give you some feel of the cooking process. Hopefully, this video will achieve that.

Malacca and Jonker Food Blogging Trip With Video
On Deepavali Day, I went with bowlingball (of course) and my fellow food blogger, wine kaki on a drive up the causeway to the town of Malacca, Malaysia.
The purpose was obviously to savor the culinary delights of this famous place where it is most well known for it's chicken rice balls and iced chendol.
At the same time, we also wanted to document this trip on video, as we felt it would be more immersive to show you more than just static photos.

Sweet One
Tonight I thought for once, I will do something a bit different, and actually not blog about food for a change.
Instead, I want to write about my trusted sidekick in this little adventure of mine, my sweet one.
The great photos that you see on this site, and many have salivated over the delicious looking food shown here, are mostly her diligent effort.

A Sneak Peek to our Malacca Jonker Road Trip
We decided to spend our Deepavali holiday by taking a road trip to Jonker, Malacca with my trusted silver kakis, bowlingball aka Pauline and winekaki aka Ken.
We also decided to try our hand doing a video travelogue and we are the first to admit, we are rank amateurs in this area, so please forgive the jerky camera work and somewhat bad audio.

Hua Yi Kitchen at International Building
Way back in 2001, before Ding Tai Fong became such a Singapore staple, I used to frequent a small yet cosy little outlet hidden in International Building near my former workplace.
It is found in the unlikeliest of places, and surrounded by the more popular Rice Table and Coca steamboat, and has only half a dozen of tables. Yet, maybe because of this, the place feels more right at home.

Pauline's Omelette
There are nights where Pauline would work until quite late at night, and often there would be very little choice to buy outside food for dinner.
Typically, she would settle for a simple omelette when she reaches back home, and out of all these occasions, I decided to do an omelette dish specifically for her, which is a very simple recipe.

Rochor Original Beancurd You Tiao With Video
Beancurd is one of our most cherished local desserts, and is often paired with a pair of delicious you tiao or fried doughsticks or similarly local fried pastries.
For me, the best beancurd is this particularly popular one found in Selegie, just opposite Wilkie Edge, and housed in a rustic 2-storey shophouse.

Oriental Surf and Turf - Chicken and Shrimp with Cubed Potatoes
I realise that I hardly have any chicken recipes, so going into this weekend, I was pretty determined to create a chicken dish.
And, I have also been quite let down by a number of surf n turf dishes when eating out, which is usually a lackluster steak and seafood combo.

Royce Chocolates
When it comes to chocolates, I always find Pauline, and ladies in general, succumbing to the intoxicating nature of this wondrous dessert.
So, this post is actually meant for the guys, for if you ever need to appease your lady, you should go on reading ...
And for me personally, nothing tops making the woman of my life smile more than putting a pack of Royce chocolate in front of her.

Good Morning Nanyang Cafe
Ahhh, the traditional morning breakfast of Singaporeans have over the years progressed from classic open air kopitiams to modern air-con outlets of Ya Kun, spread all over the island.
Yet, even more amazing, more and more new brands have sprouted offering very identical experiences, and Good Morning Nanyang Cafe is one such new offering.

Soy and Sesame Beef Strips
We happened to have some left over sirloin, and decided to do a quickfire dish for supper one night, as sort of a finger food thingy.
And to make it more interesting, I decided to end it with some oriental dressing to give it a lighter touch, making it a light supper to go easy on the tummy.

Cafe Indulge at Cathay
Situated at the basement of Cathay mall, we wandered into this interesting bistro one time after a movie, and found a very value for money eatery here.
The main attraction here is really the price, which is really surprising, considering that this is quite a pricey location, rental wise. But the bistro seems to fetch a very healthy young crowd.

Teck Kee Cooked Food - Pork Porridge and Noodles with the Best Pork Livers
This is one of the outlets I had meant to blog about a month ago, but for some reason, we always went on a day that they were either sold out or closed.
Undeterred, we finally managed to get there on a Saturday morn (very early indeed!) to try out their very popular pork congee and noodles.

Autumn Capellini with Tomato and Onion Celery Sauce
Pauline had really enjoyed last week's capellini dish, and really wanted me to do another capellini plate this week.
The thing is, she had never used to like pasta dishes, and so it was rare that she enjoyed pasta this much, and hence, I relented.

Mei Heong Yuen Dessert - Black Sesame Paste and Green Tea Snow Ice
Tong Shui (ç³–æ°´) outlets have sprouted like wildfire in recent years, in particular, in town areas like Orchard.
The best of these, however, still resides within Chinatown, and my favorite one is the one referred by my friend of 20 years, called Mei Heong Yuen Dessert at Temple St.

No. 18 Zion Road Char Kway Teow
Char Kway Teow, which is really wok fried rice cake noodles, is one of our most famous local concoctions. And what better place to have a plate of this than at Zion Market.
Zion Market itself has a couple of char kway teow stalls, but the one that is most notable happens to only operate at night, to cater to the partying crown nearby.
