51 Kovan Market Ming Fa Wanton Egg Noodle With Video

We had a chance to try out this very popular wanton mee stall in Kovan Food Market just yesterday morning, and boy, was it really popular! The queue was just amazing!

Bobcat informed us that there were actually 2 very good wanton noodle stalls here, and the other was very nearby found just a couple of stalls away at no. 57.

In fact, when 51 finishes business around lunchtime, the queue will be formed back at 57 as the crowd here just simply cannot get enough of wanton noodle it seems.

Nevertheless, we had a go at 51, which is run by 3 very busy ladies behind the scenes. The queue and crowd was so long that they had hardly time to breathe and chit chat. Naturally, our expectations were rather high.

Wanton Noodle

The noodles themselves were very, very good. Not chewy or dry, and even after being left for awhile, the noodles were still very soft and moist. It had a nice texture that had a very pleasant taste. The wantons themselves were excellent too. Very well seasoned fillings and went very well with the delicious noodles.

Mushroom Prawn Noodle

The mushroom prawn noodle was almost as good, having used the same noodles as the wanton mee. The prawn was nicely cooked and looked pretty on the plate. The mushrooms were slightly sweet and everything came just nicely balanced.

Chicken Mushroom Hor Fun

The hor fun, however, was somewhat of a disappointment. They were rather dry and not as smooth as the best Ipoh hor fun you find here. The shredded chicken was also rather chewy despite being well shredded, but the mushrooms sort of made up for this.

Mushroom Prawn Hor Fun

The mushroom prawn hor fun was similar to the noodle version, except for the inferior hor fun. Again, it was just a bit dry here and despite the rather tasty sauce, the noodles did work much better with the mushrooms and prawns.

The 3 Ladies Working Hard

As far as wanton noodles go, this stall in Kovan Market serves a really excellent plate of noodles. And the wantons were one of the best I have had for such a dish. The hor fun was really the letdown here but I suppose the queue here is really for the wanton mee.

  1. Ian.. They are known for their signature ketchup chilly mix fragrance, old skool type. They will ask if you want ketchup and if you don't like ketchup, tell them No and just order with chilly or more chilly.
