Raven at Chijmes - Gastrobar That Tickles The Senses

Gastrobars with genuine good food is a bit of a rarity here. Then again, great food in general is also quite a challenge in this current climate of cost cutting and manpower shortage issues.

Raven at Chijmes aims to be the exception and for the most part, succeeds in differentiating itself from being a mere pub and grub experience.

District 10 Bar and Grill at Suntec City - Great Steaks

Everyone loves a good steak. Well, almost everyone. Thing is, beef is not cheap in Singapore, and there are some pretty overrated steak houses in town.

I always like to cook my own steak at home, and it's easier to control how my beef comes out. Still, for a lot of other folks, it is not easy to come by a good steakhouse when you want to dine outside.

The Halia at Singapore Botanic Gardens - An Exemplary Dining Affair

Beautiful surroundings will accompany you when you dine at The Halia at the Singapore Botanic Gardens. And the open air, alfresco area is surprisingly cooling and comfortable.

Greenery makes for such an amazing dining experience, and in and among the flowers and leaves, the Halia manages to serve up an intoxicating gastronomic time for all who come here.

Zafferano - Finally a Risotto That Hits The High Marks

Risotto has been a bane of many restaurants and cafes in Singapore, and this is largely due to the fact that most risottos served here are pre-cooked and end up being mushy and broken riced on the plate.

I have always longed for a simple plate of risotto cooked to perfection with the right technique and cooked all the way through from start to end. I have found just that establishment.

Suntec is fast becoming a hive for the finest Japanese eateries in town, and Sumiya is no exception.

Mooncake season is in full swing again this year, and here is a list of some of the mooncakes that you can consider for this year's Mid Autumn Festival,

Thai Village's Mao Shan Wang Durian Mooncakes wowed me last year and it has again done it. Though largely it is the same mooncakes, undoubtedly this trumps almost any other mooncake that I have come across this year.

Indian Haute Cuisine at Town Restaurant in Fullerton Hotel

Oberoi may not be the first name you think of when it comes to Indian cuisine, but trust me, once you have a taste of Chef Hemant Oberoi's food, you will be remembering it for a long, long time.

He used to head up Taj Mahal Palace in Mumbai, and more recently, he has been around the world to showcase the best of Indian cuisine as the corporate chef for the Taj Mahal group of hotels.

Fuku Fine Dining Restaurant - Eating Dangerously, Or So It Seems with Puffer Fugu Fish

Dangerous eating is not something most diners will look for when it comes to looking for new eateries here, but puffer fish dining has been part of the Japanese culture for years.

It is only recently that puffer fish, or fugu, is available outside Japan. And Singapore is fortunate enough to be the first in Asia, outside Japan, to have a trained and certified fugu chef working among their midst.

Violet Herbs - Modern Cuisine With Affordable Trimmings

Violet Herbs is Chef Edward Hoe's latest brainchild, and it is a modern restaurant found among the revamped rows of shophouses along Tanjong Pagar.

With a name like that, you would expect a little bit of pretentious dining, compounded by a bigger bill. And you would be wrong. It is more than affordable to dine here, and it is ideal for a casual night out as well.

Muthu's Curry - Mannusavanai and Curry Fish Head

Mannusavanai means "Fragrance from the Land" in Tamil, and let me just say this right off the bat, Muthu's Curry is still the best place to go for an Indian meal.

Known for their Indian curry fish head, it has been around as long as I have, and that says something. Over the years, it remains as an institution for Indian cuisine in Singapore, and its flagship outlet in Little India is such a landmark in itself.

Pince and Pints - Lobster Nirvana

Lobsters! Lobsters! Lobsters! Yeah, we all love them. Thing is, it is hard to get fresh ones here. The ones that we consume tend to be frozen and air flown from thousands of miles away.

Pince and Pints aims to be different by actually keeping fresh lobsters in their tanks on their premises. They even go to the trouble of replicating the same ocean environment to ensure that the crustaceans are kept happy.

Heavens at Town Restaurant - Heaven Has Just Come to Town

Heavenly. In a week where we were stood up by a feline celebrity chef, it was more than adequately compensated by the dazzling food of our own local heroes.

Trading hand torched langoustine for squid ink beef, there was really no competition for the eventual winner of this culinary standoff.

Chabuton has a new outlet that has just opened its doors at Millenia Walk. And as with every new Chabuton opening, there is always a new ramen dish to commemorate the new place.

The Rockin' Diner By The Mustard Incident - Hot Dog and Philly Cheesesteak Cravings

Singaporeans seem to prefer burgers over hotdogs, and that may explain why A&W's demise some years back.

I do miss those Coney Dogs and root beers, and though they are still operating in some parts of Malaysia, I still long for a good hotdog every once in a while.

Nostalgia is something that we look for quite often as we get older, seeking out childhood memories that are seemingly lost and we yearn for those simpler, more carefree times.

Food is no exception when it comes to nostalgic recollections, and in no small part, childhood food memories tend to fill the older generation with the most sense of longing and desire.

Capri Trattoria & Pizzeria - Delicious Italian Hospitality

Italian food is all about simplicity and freshness. And passion. Passion is the single most important ingredient in Italian cuisine.

And that vital component is often missing in Italian joints found in Singapore. Far too often, Italian cafes and trattorias push out dishes by the numbers with nary a thought about the soul of Italian cooking.

Diamond Kitchen at Science Park - Comfort Food That is Honest and Superb

Chinese cuisine can be frustrating for me at times. The lack of invention being my pet peeve, and when some restaurants tries, it comes off as being gimmicky and losing the plot.

That is why, I like it when establishments like CDHK just sticks to its guns and traditions and focus on doing the basic things and nailing it every time.

Men-Tei Ramen - Authentic and Classic Ramen at It's Best

Authentic Japanese ramen is not something that is easily found here, and with the explosion of all sorts of fusion and creatively concocted versions of this Japanese classic happening everywhere, it is almost a relief to find a place that sticks to the original way of making ramen.

This is why it is both comforting and an absolute joy to visit Jason Lim's Men-Tei Ramen at Robinson Road.

Ippudo Ramen Shaw Centre - Comforting Japanese Treats

Ippudo Ramen has opened a new outlet at Shaw Centre and being my first time there, I was not sure what to expect.

Silver Food News - Momiji Japanese Buffet, FYR, Miam Miam High Tea Buffet

Buffet is usually not my thing, but I must admit that Momiji Japanese Buffet at Revenue House in the Novena Area has caught my eye, and my tastebuds.

Maybe it is because it is a strictly Japanese themed buffet as that cuta out some of the superfluous buffet items like pasta and local selections, and that focus has streamlined the food to purely Japanese favourites.
